Date: Thu, 1 Aug 1996 22:49:53 -0400 From: TonyMC21@aol.com Hey - checking in to let you know about the outsDANding show at Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio (burb) of Cleveland. Show was at Blossom Music Center - outdoor amphetheater that sounds similar to Great Woods..........Great show!! set list identical to Toronto's show EXCEPT that I.G.Y. was dropped completely. But they kept Don't Take Me Alive as first encore and it was Dantastic! The only disappointment of the evening was the crowd... lot's of late-comers (no respect) and never during the first set did they give the Dan their due. By the time the crowd REALLY got into it (Black Cow - just without a doubt the finest piece of the night) and finally began to appreciate the event we were heading down the home stretch. And then of course there are those idiots who leave before the encore so they can beat the traffic - how lame! My Old School as the second and final encore really did get the crowd at a level they should have been an hour or so earlier - no complaints on The Dan. I saw them on their first venue of the '93 tour in Detroit, again in Cleveland in '93 and this time - by far they are still showing no signs of relaxing or just putting in time....both Donald and Walter really work their asses off and you can see they are truly into it......they love it. They promised a new album/cd by the turn of the century and another tour next year of the year after. If you are waiting to see them......you are in for a great show. If you don't have tickets..........by all means find a way and go....you will be rewarded. The Dan were in detroit last night, and they sounded better than i would _ever_ have thought possible, given how 'living hard can
take its toll' and all... fantastic sound, and more people smoking grass openly than i've ever ever ever seen at pine knob. setlist
identical to the previous night's in ohio. i agree that the outro to 'my old school' seems to lead perfectly into bodhisvatta. no dice,
but im definately not complaining. 2+ hours of ecstacy. skeptics: fuck off.

LIVE DAN-CAM report (on 24-hour delay) from Pine Knob Theater in Clarkston, MI. Info provided courtesy of Lucky
Henry, who, after driving all night to make the show, reported the following. | THE SET LIST: Same as others; started with Do It Again, Bad Sneakers, Everyone's Gone To The Movies, Jack Of Speed, Hey 19, band intros to FM vamp. The big change was that IGY was dropped, Don't Take Me Alive was the 1st encore; My Old School was last. OVERALL COMMENTS: Lucky Henry's friend, a frequent concert-goer and music enthusiast, added the following about Krantz: he's right on the money, didn't miss a beat (thank goodness!), and is definitely going places. This friend was very impressed with the band chosen for the tour. THE VENUE/WEATHER: Gorgeous night, full moon. Lawn seats were a little soggy due to a recent rain. Nearly a sell-out crowd; technical problems with the video monitor on the left was distracting, but the other monitor provided for the lawn seats worked well. Acoustics were great. THE LOOK: WB ditched the red tie in favor of more earthy colors; DF wore the same black leather jacked, white collared shirt, black tie. THE BEST SOLO: Krantz' on Glamour Profession. Well, once again, I'm not there. Until next time, this is Peg, reporting (almost) live, from San Diego. Goodnite. Scenes from Tinley Park: My flight arrives from St. Louis at 1:40. Jerry picks me up and we head
down for the concert. We stop in Orland and have a drink at "The Charley Horse." We're talking to
the bartender and the concert comes up. We ask if he's going and he says no. Then says that he'd
like to since he named his daughter Aja. At Gambones have the pleasure of having dinner with
Hoops, Lucky Henry, Maggi McCoy (a fellow St. Louisan), Dan and his wife and other fans.
Perfect late afternoon to sit outside, make new friends and talk about Steely Dan. The show starts
just before dark. The set is the same as has been posted except "Josie" is the fourth song and "Peg"
ends the first set. I've read posts that said the back-up singers sounded weak in other shows but last
night they sounded great and really added to the songs. Highlights in the first set included, finally
hearing "Bad Sneakers" and "Any Major Dude" live, great version of "Green Flower Street" a
terriffic brass riff in "Rikki.." and finally, Wayne Krantz nearly playing the strings off on his lead and
close on "Peg." The second set also had one set change; "Cash Only Island" was substituted for
"Wet Side Story." In reference to the new album they said it would be released with a couple of
months..or years. At least they've narrowed it down to this century. "Midnight Cruiser" was next
(without a new third verse) and they really hit their stride. "Black Cow", "Home at Last", "Kid
Charlemagne" and, as encores, "Don't Take Me Alive" and "My Old School" all brought the house
down with Walter Becker saying "You're a great crowd, give yourselves a hand.. and we did. I've
gone every tour and last night at Tinley Park was the best show I've seen. Thanks to to everybody at
Gambone's and to the band for a great show.

A FEW RANDOM THOUGHTS CONCERNING THE TINLEY PARK SHOW....I LOST MY
PEN BEFORE THE SHOW STARTED SO THIS IS WITHOUT THE BENEFIT OF NOTES...
When Walter said Hello to Hoops (during the band intro) I was hoping Hoops would stand up and
wave... I sat too close and too far to the side.... there was no way in the world the soundman could
give me a satisfactory mix.... also the sky boxes in the World Music Theatre create echoes.... Tom
Barney was nowhere to be heard down close... I asked the soundman during the break just what the
problem was and he said, "It's the way he (Tom) likes to have his rig setup" "We've told Donald
about our problems with Tom's setup and he say's to let him keep it however he wants it."
I've a multitude of comments regarding Wayne Krantz' playing.... for now I'll be brief by saying....
"Drew who?" Seriously, folks, Wayne has most of it, if not all of it... speed, fluidity, melodic content,
discordant content, improvisation with a hint of choreography.... enough Krantz kudos for now...
Walter and Donald were both in fine form.... Cornelius got to take a double solo during the intro
when Walter decided to introduce him again just so he could have a longer solo.... (you know I
never did see Cornelius scratch his ass!!!) Corny still has what it takes to show up a young
whippersnapper like Ari Ambrose.... actually, Ari kicked butt... Tom and Ricky were awesome...
and the girls were much better than others have led me to believe... yes, there could be a choir up
there behind D&W but there are logistical limits to the size of a touring band... I know the previous
tours had 13 members.... I suspect the size of the band is the result of lessons learned by the boys...
the girls were GREAT... they sang the parts that were written for them and they did it pizazzzzzz!!!
Regarding the Bodhisattva drum part at the end of the FM vamp... no way... it's not even close....
it's something Tom and Ricky are doing together to add their touch to the show!!!
Looking forward to meeting up at KC and Denver!!! Early forecast for KC is calling for a high of
103 degrees...
